CAMP DAYS

Thanks to a very generous donation to the school, all students in grades 1-6 will have the opportunity to attend a one-day camp day at Camp Manitou. The day will be filled with tons of incredible activities such as rock-climbing, archery, hiking and crafts, along with many more. Students will be bringing home permission forms with more information soon. There will be no cost to attend but permission forms are a must. 

Grades 5-6 will attend on May 21

Grades 3-4 will attend on May 23

Grades 1-2 will attend on May 27

This is an amazing opportunity for your child and we hope that everyone gets the chance to participate!

PRAIRIE WILDLIFE REHABILITATION CENTRE 

Tyndall Park School had a month of Earth Day learning, especially about protecting the environment and animals! Julia from the centre visited on April 18th and brought with her some very special animals to show students. Mukki, a Great Horned Owl was injured when it was a fledgling and could not be released due to his injuries. Impressive and amazing, Mukki awed the students with his size and beauty. Julia also brought a Corn Snake named Nagini, that also travels for presentations to educate students about snakes here in the province and their importance. We thank Julia and the Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for visiting and bringing some amazing animals for students to learn about. 

EARTH RANGERS

Tyndall Park students were super excited to be visited by the Earth Rangers and their animal ambassadors. Earth Rangers, who you might have seen on tv,  focuses on environmental and conservation issues and continues to educate students and encourage them to take actions to protect the environment and animals that we share the Earth with. A completely non-profit organization, the Earth Rangers show is informative and included a cool hologram, as well as some even cooler animals. We thank Earth Rangers for visiting and for the staff that helped to organize this presentation. For more information, students can download the Earth Rangers app and become an Earth Rangers themselves! 

BATTERY BLITZ

Wow! What an incredible collaboration between students, staff, families and community for helping us collect batteries of all kinds in our quest to win the Battery Blitz contest! No word yet as to who the winner is, but we will let you know as soon as we find out. Families and students were sending used batteries in by the bucket loads. Together we were able to collect over 1500 lbs. of batteries that would have been sent to landfill. Thank you to all who participated and to the grade 5/6 team of students who organized and packaged all the batteries.

WSD1 KOOKUM VISITS TYNDALL PARK SCHOOL

Tyndall Park School students were excited to have WSD1 Kookum, Elder Marsha Missyabit visit the school and spend time reading to various classrooms. She also gifted classrooms with a copy of 'The Metis Star Dance'. We would like to thank Elder Marsha for stopping by and encouraging students to continue to read even after February's 'I Love to Read' activities. 

I LOVE TO READ AT TYNDALL PARK SCHOOL 

CLOSING ASSEMBLY FOR 'I LOVE TO READ' MONTH

We have had a super-fun month of reading at Tyndall Park School. Along with the many in-class activities, we have also had decorated bulletin boards, D.E.A.R. (Drop everything and read), bookmark decorating, and an incredible bunch of guest readers! We have been so fortunate to have MLA Cindy Lamoureux stop by the school nearly every year, to guest read for our students. This year, she read a story about Curious George and answered students questions about the government and her role at the Legislative Building. Nursery students had an incredible visit with Mr. Grant Anderson, from the Louis Riel Institute. Mr. Anderson, wrote the Metis History Series under the pen name, Jean LaPrairie, a name he borrowed from his grandfather. Apart from reading, Mr. Anderson brought each student in the classroom a colouring book, an activity book and a toy Red River fiddle! Students liked the story-telling, but they certainly enjoyed the fiddles more! 

Along with our in-school visitors, we also had a virtual visit in the Nursery/Kindergarten classrooms. Mark & Dilly from 100.5 morning radio read students a couple of Robert Munsch stories, which are always student favourites! Thanks to all our guest readers who took the time to encourage readers to read everyday! 

YOUNG DESIGNERS 

We are excited to have 19 students and their families participating in the Young Designers Work & Play program that runs once a week over a 6 week period. The program is a STEAM (science, technology, engineering and math) initiative led by WSD STEAM support teachers, that encourages families and students to use creativity and design skills, all the while having fun doing it together. The sessions are approximately 90 minutes long and begin with a story-telling circle that sets off the theme of the evening. During one of the sessions, families got to 'play' together and devise a container using various materials, to keep an egg from breaking in the egg-drop challenge. 6 out of the 17 eggs managed to survive! It was interesting to see what families were able to come up with. 

WINTER CONCERT 2023

We would like to welcome parents/guardians on December 7th to our 'JINGLE BELL JUKEBOX' Winter Concert. Students have been working hard throughout the weeks to bring you some swinging, jive, holiday hits! Our matinee performance will be at 1:15pm with doors opening at 1pm. The evening performance will be at 6:30pm, with the doors opening at 6pm. Please note a silver collection will be taken at the door if you would like to donate, with all money going towards the Tyndall Park School music program. 

There will be a separate Nursery/Kindergarten performance taking place on Wednesday, December 6th at 6pm. Doors open at 5:45pm. The performances will last about 20-30 minutes, ending in a sing-along. Our youngest students look forward to seeing you there!

REMEMBRANCE DAY 2023 

Students have been busy in their classrooms learning about the significance of Remembrance Day and why we recognize it with great reverence. Along with in-class teaching, an assembly was held on November 10th to acknowledge our deep appreciation for all the sacrifices made by Canada's service members. Thank you to Ms. Dow for her playing of 'The Last Post' for the assembly. 

NATIONAL DAY OF TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION AT TYNDALL PARK SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2023

Students were learning about the significance of September 30th and residential schools throughout the month of September by reading stories and/or discussions in the classroom. On Friday, September 29th, students and staff were encouraged to wear an orange shirt in remembrance of those who were exposed to the residential school system and to those who lives were lost while in the system. Classes were distributed blank, paper shirts to design their own orange shirt based on what what they've learned. The shirts were then displayed one of the front bulletin boards to share with the school. After a brief assembly, students paraded down Burrows Avenue to Keewatin and back again to show their support with banners, posters and streamers. It was an insightful day of reflection and display of respect for Indigenous survivors and victims of the residential school system. 

TERRY FOX RUN SEPTEMBER 2023

Tyndall Park School students participated in the annual Terry Fox Run and together with families and staff raised a total of $456.00 to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation! Thanks again to Ms. Dow for continuing to organize this important event for students and also to the teachers, students, and families for their continued support. After a brief assembly, students headed outside into the beautiful weather to do a full run around the field while Nursery/Kindergarten students did a smaller run around the school.
