March is coming to an end, and we are all looking forward to spring break. With report cards being handed out, I hope that your child is proud of their progress. I also look forward to all children focusing on their next steps so that they can improve in those areas.
In math this month, we focused on fractions and decimals. This was challenging! As I explained at parent teachers, our grade 4’s are embarking on a new arc in math. We are learning so many new things that will be expanded on in grades 5 and 6. This is challenging! I am very proud of the students this term with how hard they worked at learning how to convert fractions to decimals, how to sort fractions on a number line, and how to describe fractions as being parts of a whole.
In ELA, we finished up our fiction writing unit with a story based on one of the genres we learned in class. Students could write a story based on their own experiences, a science fiction story, or a story based on a previous story read by the student. We had many fascinating stories, and we look forward to seeing these stories in a class magazine in the future.
In the last week of March before spring break, we had a wonderful surprise for the students. We were fortunate to get a grant that allowed us to bring in an actor from Toronto (who used to call Winnipeg home) to teach our class how to be an actor! We started with learning mime. Then we moved on to purposeful movement, just like a robot! By the end of the week, the students were practicing putting together a short skit that they could perform for the class.
Have a happy spring break.
