At the school level:

Outdoor education at John M. King School provides students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that support physical, emotional, and social development. By engaging with the natural environment, students build curiosity, resilience, and teamwork skills while deepening their understanding of the world around them. Outdoor learning also promotes physical activity, mental well-being, and a strong connection to the land—values that align with our commitment to inclusive, holistic education. All students in grades 1-6 have outdoor education with Mr. Dodd.

Extra Curricular:

Camp Manitou

Camp Manitou, part of the True North Youth Foundation, is a recreation facility located five minutes outside of Winnipeg. With its forests, grass playing field, small man-made lake, hockey rink, gym, and the Assiniboine River on three sides, this 39-acre oasis provides lots of space in which to enjoy nature.  Camp Manitou provides a wide range of activities, challenging educational programming, and the perfect environment to step out of the everyday and connect with nature.

Camp Stephens

Nestled amidst the islands of Lake of the Woods near Kenora and steeped in tradition, Camp Stephens is one of Canada’s longest running camps. Grade five and six students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, many of which students may never have experienced before. During their visit to Camp Stephens, students stay overnight in one of our cabins, and eat food prepared by knowledgeable kitchen staff.
