February 2023 Highlights Admission Updates Direct Entry Application Deadline for Desautels Faculty of Music Extended to Feb. 15 The deadline to apply for Fall 2023 direct entry admission to the Desautels Faculty of Music has been extended to Feb. 15 - please encourage your interested music students to apply today. Direct Entry Application Deadline: March 1, 2023 The final application deadline for all Direct Entry programs (excluding University 1) is March 1, 2023. Please encourage your Grade 12 students to apply today. Students must also apply for admission prior to March 1 to be eligible for entrance scholarship consideration.
Scholarships and Financial Assistance
Entrance Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2023 Entrance scholarships ranging from $1,000-$3,000 CDN are awarded to graduating high school students with outstanding academic averages who apply for Fall 2023 admission prior to March 1, 2023. No specific scholarship application is required, but students must apply for admission to their chosen program prior to March 1 and must have an average of at least 85% (or higher) across 5 courses from our approved scholarship course list to be eligible for consideration. Winter Open House: Thurs. Feb. 23, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. School groups and individual students and families can register today for our Winter Open House. Experience a day in the life of a UM student by attending presentations and tours or connect with representatives from UM programs and services in the Information Village. Students can explore campus on our scavenger hunt for a chance to win great prizes or use our fitness and recreation facilities for free. The online UM expo is also available for those students who cannot attend in-person.
Public Lecture with Bestselling Author and Journalist Eternity Martis: March 9 Award-winning journalist and best-selling author Eternity Martis will be visiting UM on March 9. Martis is an assistant professor in the School of Journalism at the Toronto Metropolitan University, and the award-winning author of 'They Said This Would Be Fun: Race, Campus Life, and Growing Up.' This free public event runs from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (IGAC) and is open to all.
Community and Program Updates
PharmD Program Update The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) is a four-year professional program that educates students for careers as pharmacists. Students will complete 2 years of university studies prior to their application into pharmacy. The recommended high school prerequisites for pharmacy are as follows: Pre-Calculus Math 40S; Chemistry 40S; and Biology 40S. See the link above to learn more about this exciting program. Access Program The Access Program provides holistic support to students as they begin their academic journey at the UM. Application deadline is May 1; students must be Manitoba residents and demonstrate personal, academic or financial need to apply. Essay Contest for Manitoba Grade 11 & 12 Students Manitoba students in grades 11 and 12 are invited to participate in the Glassen High School Ethics Essay Competition. The winner of the best philosophical essay under 1,000 words receives a $1,000 award. Deadline for submissions is May 1. The 2023 Glassen Ethics Essay Competition topic is: Should Canada make medical assistance in dying (MAiD) available to people with mental illnesses?
Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship Webinar Series The Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship hosts bi-weekly webinars for students interested in entrepreneurship and the essential skills they need to start a business – all are welcome to attend. February’s webinars focus on BIPOC entrepreneurs in celebration of Black History Month.
