The Performing Arts
October 10, 2024
The Arts Appreciation Program promotes the enjoyment and appreciation of music, dance, drama, and the visual arts, through a broad range of activities and mediums.
The Arts is a combination of Drama, Dance, Music and the Visual Arts.
Intermediate Performing Arts
Grade 3 students have been busy reading and composing age-appropriate music notation. We have demonstrated them on the Traditional Indigenous Hand Drums. Next we will be doing some musical explorations with the book Mortimore.
The Grade 4 – 6 students are learning how to play the recorder at Lord Selkirk School this year! Students can use one the schools but if families wish to purchase a Recorder for your child you may do so. Please purchase a Soprano Recorder from a music store such as Long & McQuade or St. John’s Music. Most Soprano Recorders are approximately $5. I ask that the Recorders brought from home have the students full name written on them and I will store them safely in The Arts Room during the school year.
Thank you for your support and engagement. I look forward to the musical creativity ahead!

Primary Performing Arts
After a great start to the year in the Arts room, students have started using xylophones to practice steady beat and explore concepts of high and low and loud and quiet. Students will also be experimenting with how to use parts of the playground to create music inspired by Robert Munsch’s story Mortimer.
The intermediate choir has started working on a song for our Orange Shirt Day Assembly. The intermediate choir will be learning a song for our Remembrance Day assembly.
