Physical Education

Physical education promotes health, fitness, fairness and sportsmanship for all students. The physical education program at Kent Road will assist the students in developing their knowledge, skills and attitudes for a physically active and healthy lifestyle. We encourage life-long physical fitness and the love for sports, recreation and physical education.

OUR PROGRAM

Intramurals and extra athletic activities take place at noon hour and / or recess. the activities range from sport specific such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, floor hockey to low organized games. Leadership students assist with activities. Our activities are included on the calendar in our Kent Road newsletters.

Leadership students are a group of grade 6 students who learn to organize and run intramurals, recess games, and Special Event days such as the Halloween Haunted House and Field Day.


SCHOOL WIDE ACTIVITIES

To promote health and fitness, all students participate in:

  • Terry Fox Run
  • Haunted Gym
  • March Fun Day
  • Field Day in June
  • Other special activities organized throughout the year


PHYSICAL EDUCATION / HEALTH CLASSES

Through a variety of learning experiences contributing to physically active and healthy lifestyles, each of the following learning outcomes will be achieved.

1. MOVEMENT

The students will demonstrate competency in selected movement skills and knowledge of movement development and physical activities with respect to diverse types of learning experiences, environments, and cultures.

2. FITNESS MANAGEMENT

The student will demonstrate the ability to develop and follow a personal fitness plan for lifelong physical activity and well-being.

3. SAFETY

The student will demonstrate safe and responsible behaviours to manage risks and prevent injuries in physical activity participation and in daily living.

4. PERSONAL / SOCIAL MANAGEMENT

The student will demonstrate the ability to develop self-understanding, to make health enhancing decisions, to work cooperatively and fairly with others, and to build positive relationships with others.

5. HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PRACTICES

The students will demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions for healthy living relating to personal hygiene, active living, healthy nutritional practices, substance use and abuse, and human sexuality.


HOME & SCHOOL CONNECTION

How a parent/caregiver addresses and views physical activity and healthy eating is vital in promoting the best for a child. Encourage your child to be active and eat healthy at home and at school.
