Grade 9 Math 91 Course Description
Grade 9 Math is an up-grade of similar outcomes in Grade 8 Math and at the same time a preparations course for Grade 10 Math. The units in Grade 9 Math include – Rational Numbers, Square Roots and Surface Areas, Powers and Exponents, Circle Geometry, Linear Relations, Polynomials, Linear Equations and Inequalities, Statistics and Probability, Symmetry and Similar Polygons. Assessments will be done through assignments, unit tests, quizzes and final exam in June. If time permits, these students will have the opportunity to pre-view some Grade 10 Pre-Calculus Math.

Grade 9 Science Course Description
Course Description: In Grade 9 Science, students will be studying four units: Reproduction, Atoms and Elements, Electricity and Astronomy.
The Reproduction Unit covers topics such as; the cell parts and functions, Mitosis and Meiosis cell divisions, sexual and asexual reproduction, human development from conception to birth, and genetics (DNA and inheritance)
The Atoms and Elements Unit covers topics on; physical and chemical properties, physical and chemical changes, models of the atom, the atomic theory of matter, and The Periodic Table of elements.
The Electricity Unit covers topics on; static electricity, Laws of Conservation of charges, Laws of Repulsion and Attraction, current electricity, series and parallel circuits, insulators and conductors, sources of electricity, cost of electricity and calculations of power, current, resistance, energy and watts.
The Astronomy Unit students will be able to observe and locate visible celestial objects. They will develop an understanding of the origin, evolution, and components of the universe. They will understand how the season changes with respect to the sun. They will also investigate technologies that extended our knowledge and understanding of the universe.
Class Expectations:
Students are expected to attend school and classes regularly and on time. They will bring supplies that are required to complete assignments. All assignments are to be handed in on time usually the next day but no later than three days. Homework should be completed and brought to class the next day. If students need help to complete their assignments they are encouraged to attend assignment catch up periods (ACU). Safety in the science lab and classroom should be practiced at all times.
