Project Pulse Conference

On May 21st, a group of DMCI Medical 12 students attended the 2025 Project Pulse Conference. The Project Pulse Conference focused on inspiring and educating youth across Winnipeg about various healthcare professions. This conference consisted of four workshops where students were able to get hands-on experience.

Project Pulse Winnipeg is a youth-led, non-profit organization that exposes high school and early post-secondary students to a wide range of healthcare careers. Through their annual conferences and online platforms, they are able to introduce students to professionals in their respective fields. Their official website can be found here: Project Pulse Winnipeg.

The four workshops were:

  1. Infection Control Game - Students simulate a hospital environment where they work together to control an outbreak.

  1. Clinic to Counter - Students role-played as different medical professionals to gain an understanding of what the healthcare environment would look like.

  1. Optics: Parts of the Eye - Students were given the opportunity to dissect a pig's eye while learning about the different parts of the eye.

  1. Open Heart Surgery - Students explored the circulatory system and heart anatomy by dissecting a pig’s heart.

Two panels were held during the conference, first being the university panel. University students shared their experiences and struggles in maintaining a school-life balance and provided the audience with tips for success. The second panel consisted of professionals who gave insight on their journey as a healthcare worker.

The conference concluded with a keynote speaker, Dr. Ryan Dale, a general surgeon who talked about his experience and how it is not always a smooth path going into the healthcare field. Dr. Dale emphasized the importance of being able to bring his practice as a general surgeon to less populated areas of Manitoba such as Thompson.

Overall, the 2025 Project Pulse conference inspired many youths in Manitoba to join and reshape our healthcare system.
