Public Lecture Event: Tanya Talaga

April 21, 2026 Announcement
Student Absenteeism Summit - Public Lecture Event

As the closing event of Winnipeg School Division's Student Absenteeism Summit, families and the public are invited to join guest lecturer Tanya Talaga as she shares reflections on student engagement and belonging in a lecture titled 'Truth Before Reconciliation: the Opportunity in Front of Us.'

Ten years have passed since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission reported on Canada's true history. Ninety-four Calls to Action were made, but only 14 have been fulfilled to date. The Calls were a roadmap, a gift, from Indian Residential School Survivors on how to mend the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians. With all the obstacles that our youth face, what can we do as educators, leaders, community members and allies to support our kids - the next generation?
