Skating Club
This program runs once a week after school hours at the local community rink across Sir William Osler field. Our skating program is designed for students in grades 2-4 and 5-6 of all skill levels. This will be a great opportunity for students who are interested in learning how to skate, as well as students who already have some skating knowledge, to refine their skills! The overall goal of this program is to get students physically active outside and hopefully motivate students to access public outdoor rinks during the Winter season. Parent volunteers are needed to help tie skates and support new skaters.
Run Club
Run club starts in late spring. Runs take place during the lunch hours a couple of times per week. Students in Grades 2-6 are available to participate in our Run Club. The main focus of this club is to provide students additional time to be physically active and promote physical fitness and goal setting. Our goal is to have all students surpass their original running time after many practices. Lastly, this club gives the opportunity to students in Grades 4-6 to practice for the divisional FIT RUN that is hosted at Assiniboine park.
Soccer
The first divisional sport that comes up during the school year is soccer. Soccer practices will be held during the lunch hour. This program will only be available to students in Gr 5-6. Students. Students will be working on their ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting, fair play and gamesmanship during practice hours.
Volleyball
During the month of November, students in Gr 5-6 will have the opportunity to practice their volleyball skills. Students will learn how to underhand serve, volley (set) and bump. The Winnipeg School division has adapted their volleyball rules/format to the Tripleball format. The main difference between Volleyball and Tripleball is, Tripleball allows the receiving team to catch the volleyball after the first touch. The intention of this rule change is to improve game flow, speed the game up and allow more touches for the students!
