The Physical Education program for students in grade 1 to 4 focuses on developing students' fundamental movement skills within a variety of developmentally appropriate game, dance, and gymnastic activities. The program will also enhance students' personal fitness and provides them with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage in a variety of physical activities. Personal and social responsibility, self-directed learning, and problem solving skills are also reinforced throughout the grades 1 to 4 physical education program at Sacré-Coeur.
Students will focus on 5 strands in Physical Education:
- Movement
- Fitness Management
- Safety
- Personal and Social Management
- Healthy Lifestyle Practices
Students are asked to wear non-marking indoor running shoes in the gym. Grade 4 students will be asked to change their clothes for Physical Education class. Students can wear shorts, t-shirts, sweatpants, or leggings. Please ensure that your child brings their clothes home to be washed. Students who do not change will get "three strikes:" the first two classes they are not changed, students will participate in their street clothes. On the third class that students do not change, they will be required to complete a homework assignment. They must complete that assignment before they can return to class.
If your child is unable to participate in Physical Education due to injury or illness, please provide a written note for their teacher.
