OUR PROGRAM

The Filipino bilingual program at Meadows West School invites our community to appreciate and embrace Filipino culture by learning, sharing, connecting and celebrating.

The Filipino program offers opportunities to explore:

• Filipino language (reading, writing, and speaking)

• History

• Cultural Identity through story, song and dance.

• Cultural traditions

BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM

Academic Programming

The program is based on the Manitoba Education Curriculum using best practices. Play based, inquiry learning, STEM and collaboration are all part of the bilingual educational experience.

Language Acquisition and Competence

Students develop the ability to speak, read and write in Filipino. This can foster deeper relationships with grandparents, relatives and friends using their heritage language.

Culture/Heritage Identity

Students take pride in learning about their cultural heritage, traditions and values.

Community Connections

We value community connections in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

PARENT REFLECTIONS

“Choosing to relocate to a different country signifies a potential loss of one’s identity. So, when we stumbled upon the Filipino Bilingual Program, we were like “Why Not?”. We happily signed up our kids and it was a game-changer! The program has had a profound impact on both our children and our family, aiding them in embracing their true Filipino identity.

Fortunately, adapting to our new life in the foreign country was a relatively smooth process because of the sense of belonging this program shared with us. It brought us joy to witness our children gaining insights into the richness of Filipino culture from an early age through this program.

The Filipino Bilingual Program was the best decision we have made for our son. He enjoys learning the language and it helps him maintain his connection with his cultural roots. This program will also help him communicate with family members who primarily speak Filipino and as an interracial family, the program extends into our household. We are learning along with him.”
