Students’ Jobs
Students will demonstrate their desire to be an active member of École LaVérendrye by being responsible, being respectful, being safe, and being a good learner.
Accidents & Mistakes Do Happen
Accidents happen every day at school. Typically, students who have accidents do two things - they apologize immediately and help the other student involved. Most often accidents are corrected without assistance from adults.
Children Make Mistakes
From time-to-time children make mistakes based upon poor choices or impulsive behaviour. When this occurs students will be expected to take responsibility for their actions and participate in finding a solution. Some children can fix their mistakes independently, while others require adult (school staff or parental) assistance to resolve their mistake with the others involved. There may or may not be additional actions taken by the school staff when mistakes are made. Consequences depend upon several factors including, but not limited to, the student’s age and developmental level, the severity of the misconduct, the student’s history of misconduct, and the student’s ability to understand her/his actions.
Consequences range from a warning to parent/school conferences, to a reset, and occasionally, to a suspension.
Occasionally, after children resolve an issue at school (with the assistance of an adult), parents expect more from the solution. If parents find themselves in that situation, please contact the adult who assisted the child for more information about the process that was used in determining the resolution.
For Parents / Guardians
The conduct of parents/guardians in schools is governed by Board policies and provincial and federal legislation. Consequences for inappropriate behavior may include a verbal warning, restricted access to the school or other consequences as defined by law.
