Physical Education Program Overview

At École George V School, we believe that physical education plays an essential role in the overall growth and well-being of every student. Our K–8 Physical Education program is designed to help students build lifelong healthy habits, develop physical skills, and gain confidence through active participation in a safe an inclusive environment for all.

Program Goals

  • Encourage daily physical activity and promote a healthy, active lifestyle.
  • Kindergarten to Grade 6 will build their knowledge of fundamental movement skills: transport skills (running, jumping, hopping, galloping, and skipping), manipulative skills (rolling, bouncing, catching, striking, and kicking), and balance skills (static and dynamic).
  • Foster teamwork, cooperation, and good sportsmanship.
  • Create inclusive, safe, and fun learning experiences for all students.
  • Support the physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being of students.

What Students Experience

  • Skill Development: Activities are designed to help students grow from basic movement skills in the early grades to more complex skills and game play in the older grades.
  • Variety of Activities: Students participate in fitness circuits, cooperative games, team sports, individual challenges, dance, and outdoor activities.
  • Progressive Learning: Lessons build on each other throughout the year, moving from skill practice to small group activities and full games.
  • Health and Wellness: We emphasize the importance of personal fitness, safety, and making healthy choices.

Expectations

  • Students in Grades 4–8 are asked to bring a change of clothes (t-shirt, shorts or sweatpants, and running shoes) for comfort and hygiene.
  • Proper indoor footwear is required for all grades to ensure safety.
  • We encourage students to participate fully, try new activities, and support their classmates.

Extracurricular Opportunities

Students in upper grades may have the chance to join school teams, clubs, or special events such as cross country, intramurals, and divisional tournaments. These activities give students additional opportunities to develop skills, build school spirit, and stay active.

Our Commitment

We aim to create a positive, inclusive environment where every child feels safe, supported, and motivated to move. By helping students discover activities they enjoy, we hope to set the foundation for a lifetime of physical activity and healthy living.
