Manitoba High School Chess Championship 2026

Students in Grades 7–12 across Manitoba are invited to participate in the Manitoba High School Chess Championship, hosted by the École Secondaire Sisler High School Chess Club in collaboration with the Manitoba Chess Association.

Event Details

Date: March 31, 2026 (Spring Break)
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (tournament begins at 10 a.m.)
Location: Senior Gymnasium, École Secondaire Sisler High School, 1360 Redwood Ave
Entrance: Senior Gym Door #31

Tournament Format

• Seven rounds of play
• 10 minutes per player + 3-second increment per move
• All participants will play all seven rounds
• One-hour lunch break
• Non-cash prizes awarded to individual winner(s) and the top-performing school team

Registration

There is no entry fee. Capacity is 100 students.

Students must register by 5:00 p.m. on March 30 by contacting Orysya Petryshyn, opetryshyn@wsd1.org, and Blair Rutter, blairrutter@shaw.ca.

Additional Information

Students and accompanying families or staff are responsible for their own transportation and lunch.

This year’s tournament is held in support of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, where participants can donate to support those affected by war in Ukraine.
