Legacy School
October 21, 2021
In 2016 Gord Downie asked all Canadians to look at the relationship and awareness between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and to "Do Something". His goal was to make Canada a stronger, more accepting place to live. He challenged all Canadians to do this, and since the very beginning, Champlain School has been up to the challenge.
Champlain School is proud to be a Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Legacy School. The legacy school program is designed to engage, empower and connect staff and students to further reconciliation through awareness, education and action. The legacy school also ensures that interests, rights, and perspectives of Indigenous peoples are recognized and implemented in schools across Canada. For the past five years, the legacy program has increased conversations between staff and students and has created a safe culture where everyone is included.
