Over 2,500 Graduates Walk Across the Stage in Winnipeg School Division

This week, 13 high schools from across Winnipeg School Division celebrated the achievements of more than 2,500 graduates. From gymnasiums and theatres to the RBC Convention Centre, each convocation ceremony was a powerful reminder of the resilience, brilliance, and heart of our students.

In his addresses to some graduates, Superintendent Matt Henderson delivered a message of hope and challenge to the Class of 2025. Henderson reflected on what it means for this graduating group to be "the reset generation"—a term used to describe a generation coming of age in a world facing urgent challenges: climate crisis, social injustice, economic inequality, mental health struggles, and more.

“Our world is aching,” Henderson said. “Planet Earth is sick. Our society is sick. But you—our graduates—are being called to imagine something new, and then to build it.”

The message to students was clear: graduation is not an ending, but a beginning. With references to educators and philosophers like Paulo Freire and Maxine Greene, Henderson urged students to engage in praxis—informed, purposeful action that transforms both the individual and society.

“Let your praxis—your informed action—be your guide. Read. Listen. Explore. Build relationships, ” he encouraged.

Across the division, graduates were recognized not only for academic achievements, but for contributions in athletics, the arts, leadership, and community engagement. They leave behind legacies of kindness, creativity, and collaboration—and take with them the lessons learned from peers, teachers, and their communities.

To all WSD graduates: We are incredibly proud of you. Thank you for showing us what it means to live with joy, love, and rigour. The world needs your brilliance, your love, and your leadership now more than ever.
