Frequently Asked Questions

Can my child register for multiple courses during summer school?

No. Due to the condensed nature of the summer schedule, students are only permitted to register for one course to ensure they can manage the workload effectively.

What is a repeater student and a non-repeater student?

A repeater is a student who has previously attempted the course during the regular school year and was unsuccessful. A non-repeater is taking the course for the first time.

What if my child is absent from some classes during summer school?

Due to the fast-paced schedule, attendance is critical in summer school. Students who miss more than three classes may be withdrawn from the course unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Will you offer more summer school courses in August?

No. All summer school courses are offered only in July.

How will I know if my child needs summer school?

Families don’t have to wait for final report cards before registering. By early June, families should have a good sense of whether their child will need to repeat a course at summer school. We recommend talking with your child’s teacher and school administration before registering.

How will I know if my child is accepted into summer school?

The summer school office will notify families by phone or email before June 27, the last day of the regular school year.

How will I know if my child passes summer school and credits are applied?

Families will be informed of summer school results before the start of the new school year. Final marks and credit information will also be shared with the students’ regular school for their records.

How do I pay fees for summer school?

If your child is not a repeater student from WSD, you can pay fees in the following ways:

  • By credit card online during registration
  • By cash or cheque directly to the lead summer school teacher

Does WSD offer an EAL (English as an Additional Language) enrichment program during summer?

Yes, but this is a different program from academic summer school. EAL enrichment courses are offered at select schools during summer, and students are invited to register by the school and EAL teachers. Contact your school administration to learn about the WSD EAL summer enrichment program.
