Science Rendezvous at the University of Manitoba

NorthSTAR (Northern Student-led Arctic Research) participants from Kelvin High School, Nelson Macintyre Collegiate and Churchill, Manitoba joined University of Manitoba professors and students at Science Rendezvous to present “Polar Bears on Thin Ice” at Manitoba’s largest hands-on science and engineering festival. Hundreds of kids came with their families for a fantastic, engaging science event. At the polar bear booth, Kelvin students used games and activities to teach kids how to estimate the body condition of a bear from a photo and how to identify bears using their scar patterns and whisker printing. The most popular activity was a Spin the Wheel game to answer polar bear questions and win fun prizes.
